Mikaela Dela Cruz I'm 16 years old. I'm a proud Filipino American living in Pennsylvania. My limited musical theater experience began in 2014 at Bethel Springs. I have always loved singing which prompted me to audition for Sleeping Beauty Jr. I landed a role as Fauna, one of Aurora's fairy companions. Performing at the age of ten catalyzed the newfound confidence that I carry with me today. I participated in another school musical as a singing coconut tree in the Jungle Books Kids. I took a break from theater during middle school and resumed during my freshman year of high school. As of today (2021), I have been in five (almost six) productions; High School Musical, Annie, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Seussical, Our World Stopped, and Newsies.
In short, I am a singer, writer, activist, and human with a lot of love and empathy. I am grateful to be the person I am today but I wouldn't be the same without my passions, friends, and family. INTERESTS I love music and there is a very slim chance that I could survive without it. I have been singing recreationally since the age of six (shout out to Alicia Keys' "No One" for getting me into my passion). I play the acoustic guitar and ukulele whenever I find time. Writing is an outlet of mine and a way to jot down my thoughts because my mouth can never keep up with my head. I have no clue who I would be today without writing. I have adored it ever since first grade when a short story I wrote was entered into my school's "Young Authors" anthology. Ever since, my passion for it continues. HIGH SCHOOL As a sophomore in high school, most of my days are spent in the classroom or in the auditorium. I'm part of drama club and choir. I consider the drama club to be my second family. I'm grateful to spend many of my hours living one of my passions alongside beautiful and talented people. I'm an editor of the school yearbook. Although it began as one of the many clubs I joined as a freshman, it became something I was proud to be part of. I get to document the stories of students and their high school experience through pictures. Lastly, I am the proud vice president of HERE--a racial justice club. Running this club alongside my best friend, Rachel, may be one of my greatest accomplishments. Bringing light to racial issues is vital especially when living in a bubble that is Garnet Valley High School. We don't understand the struggle of minorities in their fight to be treated with the same dignity and respect everyone deserves. I am part of HERE to educate and promote acceptance for the beauty that is diversity. So far, high school has given me some of the best experiences of my life and I can't wait to live the rest of them. THE PRESENT 2020 - I continue to live life to its fullest potential. I am committed to improving myself as a person and growing from my experiences in life. As of now, I am undecided as to what I want to pursue in life. Do I want to become a doctor of some sort or can I pull off becoming a vlogger on YouTube? I don't know. However, what I do know for sure is that I want to dedicate the rest of my life doing three things: 1. Being happy. 2. Living life to the fullest (yolo) 3. Making an impact on others. 2021 - Update! When I created this blog last year, I had no idea of the pandemic that is the coronavirus and the havoc it would wreak on the entire globe. A lot has changed. Stay tuned for my blogs, writing, videos, photos, etc. Have an amazing day. XOXO, Mikaela "Mika" Dela Cruz |
